Part 3 - Filling in
Clone off a layer from the portrait you prepared earlier ( right click it
and choose DUPLICATE LAYER ). Increase the contrast more
( IMAGE->ADJUST->BRIGHTNESS/CONTRAST ) and use the magic
wand tool on a setting around 16 to erase all the white areas and
leave only transparent areas behind:
Create a new empty layer called "layer 1" - this layer will contain
the thinest lines in our engraving. Press the "Control" button and
click on the contrasted picture - this will select all the black areas, now
select "layer 1" and go to EDIT->FILL->USE PATTERN, choose pattern
"one".
In the above picture you can see the selected area which is filled
with pattern "one". The contrasted portrait layer is made invisible and there
is a white background layer added to show you "layer 1".
Delete the most recent contrasted portrait and clone off another one.
This time make the contrast greater than last time and repeat same
steps with pattern "two" and empty layer "layer 2".
Notice how there is more contrast. Dont forget to erase all the white
parts with the magic wand, Control-click this layer, create a new empty
layer ("layer 2") and EDIT->FILL->USE PATTERN, choose pattern "two".
Notice that this time the lines are thicker, but there are also less of
them - we essentially "thicken the line" on the dark areas of the portrait.
The third, and thickest, set of lines is done in the same way. Just
remember to have even more contrast than the second time.
Use pattern "three".
Lenin's face is really slimming down.
You can see all three layers of lines in the layer window, lets make
them all visible and wer'e done!!
